I’ve always found it fascinating that in order for someone to be the King (or Queen), another person has to die. There is no other job in the world (at least not one that I can think of) that depends on the predecessor’s death.
To be born a prince (or princess) is to wait your whole life for the death of a family member just so you can inherit their power. I can’t imagine the kind of relationship you would have with that family member if your elevation depends on their death.
How could you fully celebrate your new position when the time comes? Because you’ll be planning a funeral and a coronation. You’ll be mourning and feasting all at the same time. I just couldn’t do it, to just sit around my whole life waiting for my parent to die just so I can finally rule. No thank you!
